HOLZFEDER
ecological, local, compostable diaper

WHY

in cooperation with:
Weitzer Parkett is Austria’s market leader in parquet floors and wooden stairs.

Adult incontinence products are a far bigger waste problem than baby diapers, and with an aging population, the situation will get worse in the next decade.
CONCEPT

RESEARCH

„HolzFeder“ is an ecological, compostable diaper that uses pressed wood waste from the local wood industry instead of the conventionally used silica gel for the absorption.
Silica gel is a synetic product, which is mainly produced in China with high energy consumption and water pollution.
Experiment:
Can wood absorb the same amount of water than Silicagel can?
EXPERIMENT

wood chips from the workshop

woodchips compared to Silicagel

Silicagel absorbs way more water

Fail

Success

"up to 25% of women
are incontinent (Germany)"

up to 11% of men
are incontinent (Germany)"
Every fourth woman and every ninth man suffers from urinary incontinence. Thus, urinary incontinence is the most common chronic disease for women, ahead of hypertension, diabetes and depression.
Incontinence is a very shameful topic, which is why the consequences of the high diaper consumption associated with urinary incontinence are unfortunately addressed far too rarely in the public context.
